Are you in favor of the proposed shift of the Philippines to a 12-year basic education system?

Are you in favor of the proposed shift of the Philippines to a 12-year basic education system?

I do not in favor of the proposed shift of the Philippines to a 12-year basic education; the main reasons of the deterioration of the educational curriculum of the Philippines are the following:

-Lack of facilities and other teaching aids
-Inadequate learning environment
-Government ponds in public teachers
-Moral degradation of the nation
-Inappropriate or unsuitable educational system

The students’ activities are outlined in the table below.

Learning Principle

Teacher’s Activity

Student’s Activity

1. Law of Readiness

Motivate the students by asking them the previous acquired information regarding the topic “Reflection.”

The students were actively participated during the discussion and problem solution given by the teacher.

2. Law of Exercise

Providing the students with three exercises before giving them an assignment.

Solving the given problem in their respected sits while others were answering it on the board.

3. Law of Belongingness

Boys and girls were separated in two rows to possess the quality of belongingness.

Student-to-student interaction and discussion with in their paired or groups.

4. Law of Effect

The teacher was acknowledging the students who were actively participate in the class.

Motivate and stimulate when acknowledge by the teacher.

5. Law of Association/Association process

The teacher connects the previous lesson to the new one.

Attaining and participating in class discussion.

6. Law of Frequency and Recency

More elaborations on analytical problem solving of how to solve the focal length of the reflected object in a reflection.

The students’ solve the given problem in the fast way, after the teacher gives them the problem example in three times.

7. Active or Dynamic process

Letting the students to do the problem solving in the board.

Self-activity of students by answering the given problem on the board.

8. Integration

The topic-reflection of Physics integrates with angles solving in Math.

Using the application of the students’ knowledge in the problem solving in Math.

9. Creativeness

Draft the reflected object with respect to the original object and solve the focal length.

Manage and understood easily the subject matter through the aid of drawing presentation done by the teacher.

10. Understanding

Understood the cause of unattained students (e.g. sleepiness).

Few of the students were sleeping in the class.

11. Transferrable

Transferred the analytic method of solving the focal length to the students.

Acquiring knowledge in fast way because of the analytical problem solving used by the teacher.

12. Context

Discussed the topic on the context in which the students can easily comprehend the equitation of the reflection in general.

Contextual topic will easily adopted and comprehend by the students.

13. Cooperative process

Teacher-student cooperation in solving the given problem.

Teacher-student cooperation in solving the given problem.

14. Personality of the teacher

Here are some of the personal characteristics of the teacher:

-Approachable

-More on explanation

-Teaching strategies are good

-Cheerful in teaching

Students’ peaceful mind and readiness to lean because of the personality of the teacher.

3. What Objectives was/were attained?

The objectives of the teacher were attained and these are the following:

· Motivate the students

· Make an exercise so that the students know the method of solving the problem

· Acknowledging the accomplishment of students

· Relate the subject matter with the other subject

· Conduct review exercises

· Promote students’ self-activity

· Integration of the subject to other subject

· Encourage cooperativeness among students

4. Give your insights on the activity?

My perspective insights during my class observation through the use of proper teaching strategies, knowledge in the principles of learning and the teacher’s personality were the great elements in facilitating learning and acquiring of knowledge in the mind of the learners.

The premises of this field study as student-teaching learner are:

· I must recognize and know the principle of teaching

· I should promote within my-self the principles of learning

· I should act the proper conduct of the teacher with respect to the principle of teaching

· I should encourage the students’ self-activity within my class

Real learning will achieve through self-activity of the learners; without which, learning cannot occur. Learning by doing creates the room of improvement among the learners with have low intelligence. Self-activity stimulates cooperation, creativeness, understanding, purpose, integration, association and knowledge acquisition.

FIELD STUDY

Experience the Teaching Learning Process

Episode 1 Learning Characteristics and Behavior

Name of FS Student: Archie Ryan Cutanda Course: BTTE-IV

Cooperating School: Agusan National High School Address: Agusan, Cagayan de Oro

Date of Visit August 10, 2010 Subject Physics Year Level IV-EARTH

Resource Teacher: Marlon A. Dagatan Signature: _____________

Objectives: At the end of the activity the student should be able to

a. identify the learners characteristics

b. describe the behavior of the student

c. identify the causes of such behavior

d. give insights on what has been observed

Activities

1. What are some of the observable characteristics of the learner? What are their needs?

Here are some of the observable characteristics of the learners and their and their needs:

Contribute

Teacher’s campaign on learners’ self-activities among the groups of learners.

Cheerful

Teacher’s formation on satisfied and pleasant topic or subjects and self-experience which is incorporated to the subject tackled.

Optimistic

Teacher’s realization of self-activity among the students.

Dozy

Teacher’s Emphasizing on the napping’ learners, and gets the attention of the learners to attain the class conversation.

2. Describe the behavior of the students. Why did they demonstrate such behavior?

The behavior of the student I had been noticed are the following:

Students tend to favor practical learning activities that enable them to draw on their prior skills and knowledge.

Students were readily able to relate new facts to past experiences and enjoy having their talents and knowledge explored in a teaching situation.

Students have established opinions, values and beliefs which have been built up over time and arrived at following experience of families, relationships, work, community, politics, etc.

Learners increase their effort when motivated by a need, an interest, or a desire to learn.

Learners had engaged in learning their attention must be fully focused on the material presented.

Students learn at various rates and in different ways according to their intellectual ability, personality and cognitive learning styles.

Students learn best in a democratic, participatory and collaborative environment.

3. What was the teacher’s behavior? If you were the teacher, what could you have done?

Learners’ Behavior

Probable Cause

Teachers’ Behavior

Recommendation

1. Sensitivity

Alertness of thinking skills (High Intelligence)

Providing adequate information

The teacher must promote the positive sensitivity of the learners’; not the negative one or get easily upset.

2. Happy

Motivation done by the teacher

Motivate students to participate the discussion by using humor integration of experiences.

Teaching strategies is nice.

3. Enthusiastic

Eagerness to learn

Teacher’s personal behavior are noble

Teachers’ behavior is one of the great factors of the learners’ eagerness to learn.

4. Write down your insights on what you have observed.

Students are self-aware i.e. they know themselves. When they are in a learning situation which they do not like, they are able to adapt it to their personal needs. They believe they can always learn something, whatever the situation. They also know how they prefer to learn and choose learning situations that are suited to their way of learning.

Learner identified characteristics of quality learning experiences, of the subject Physic were the main thrust of the research and these characteristics were obtained from the learners. It must be noted that this study was done with a small group of learners using a particular type of technology, so many of the comments are unique to that method of delivery. The characteristics seemed to group into characteristics of the course, the physical setting, the method of delivery, the instructor and the learner support.
